I had intended to go outside and take pictures this weekend, but as it has been cloudy/rainy, I have been unable. I have therefore made some rough sketches, some of which I will replace with photos, others of which I will make replace with better drawings, as indicated.
I have set the Tales on the Moon, leaving for Mars, fleeing the overpopulated and polluted Earth. This bears many similarities to the Decameron, relating to the seven women fleeing the pestilence.
While these pictures are still in their elementary form and I look forward to seeing the final product, I shall make a few suggestions to them, regardless. As you are attempting to convey the vastness of empty space and the lack of external stimuli encountered by the characters of your journey, I would suggest portraying the spaceship emitting light from it into the vast darkness surrounding it. Additionally, I would make it smaller in the image to strengthen the image of desolation. The image of the moon pub is a good starting point for the story line. I would develop it to show the hospitality that the people experience on the moon yet to still capture the overcrowded state that plagues the colony. The third image I would like to see in the final product is that of the people around the campfire. I would draw in the background of the town on the ship, dark against the lightly starred glass dome. The glow of the fire would be the only illumination that is visible in the image I envision, showing the true desolation of the characters that unites them in their common quest for a new life on Mars.
ReplyDeleteAs an additional note, it is paramount that the storyline gives these images a plot. If this is lacking, the viewer will simply be looking at a random collection of images of futuristic space.
ReplyDeleteThe pub on the moon the space shot and the spaceship are the three shots that are needed. The first shows a parallelism with Chaucer and how the characters would live on the moon. The second exemplifies the vastness of space and the disconnection with society. The third picture shows the characters trip and how they would get there. The pictures are not clear enough to critique the details of the pictures. I believe the space shot shold be held for an extended period of time during the slide show to show the emptiness of space.
